Original Placement Objectives
The placement’s initial objectives and performance indicators for evaluating the achievement of each objective were as follows:

1. Develop and implement a three-year strategic plan. Indicators:
  1. Strategic plan developed, in cooperation with stakeholders
  2. Strategic plan implemented, resulting in more strategic focus for the organization
2. Improve monitoring & evaluation and reporting systems. Indicators:
  1. Current methods reviewed and analysed
  2. Improvements agreed, implemented and internalised
  3. Staff trained
  4. Perceived efficiency increased
3. Facilitate the development of the management capacity of senior level and midlevel staff. Indicators:
  1. Training/coaching needs assessment finalized
  2. Staff received training & coaching
  3. Confidence levels have increased
  4. Presentation, planning and coordination skills have improved
The following indicators have since been dropped. They are not deemed realistic due to the time a volunteer should spend with just one organisation to be effective and the low level of demand expressed by other CARE partner NGO's:

4. Facilitate organizational development of several partner NGO's of CARE in the region by delivering consultancy and training services on an agreed demand basis. Indicators:
  1. OD-needs identified
  2. Consultancy cycles planned
  3. Consultancy implemented
  4. OD-needs met
Dependent on the progress with BRIF and other new opportunities in the region, Keri, in the 2nd year, might work for BRIF on a part time basis and shift focus to other VSO strategic partners.
Other objectives:
  • To build a working relationship and a team approach with other volunteers in the region
  • To build up rapport with CARE and to assist/co-facilitate partner NGO training
  • To assess/identify ways of extending this initiative to other CARE partners/projects
